Mendelssohn’s dramatic oratorio Elijah depicts a drought striking Israel, a contest of the gods and Elijah’s wanderings in the desert. It was premiered in 1846 a year before Mendelssohn died. Neal Davies, in the title role, won the Lieder Prize at the 1991 Cardiff Singer of the World competition and is a regular guest at the Edinburgh Festival, the BBC Proms, ENO and WNO. He has also sung at Covent Garden, as well as in Berlin and Chicago.

Dulwich Choral Society, marking its 75th anniversary, is joined by the JAGS Holst Choir and City of London Sinfonia, resident orchestra at Holland Park Opera. Conductor Aidan Oliver is Chorus Director of the Edinburgh Festival Chorus and founding director of Philharmonia Voices.
