SYO are delighted to welcome outstanding pianist Simon Callaghan for a performance of Rachmaninov’s dazzling and notoriously technically demanding Third Piano Concerto.

The music of American composer Florence Price is at long last receiving the recognition it deserves after many years of neglect, and the Orchestra performs her Third Symphony in the second half of the concert, which will also feature three pieces played by Stoneleigh Youth Training Orchestra.

The concert opens in a celebratory mood with Shostakovich’s captivating Festive Overture, written just three days before its first performance in 1954.
