The Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Marios Papadopoulos, presents a special concert celebrating the centenary of iconic Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis.
Known for his celebrated soundtrack to Zorba the Greek, his music has become emblematic of Greek cultural identity and resonated far beyond its borders.
Legendary Greek vocalist Alkistis Protopsalti joins the “supremely skilled” (The Times) musicians of the Oxford Philharmonic to perform a selection of enduring songs by Theodorakis who brought Greek folk and popular music to international audiences, blended classical and traditional forms, and shaped Greek music for generations.
The evening includes the world premiere of a new work written in tribute: Invocation by Nestor Taylor, for voice and orchestra featuring mezzo-soprano Melina Jaharis.
