A Season’s First for ECO
As part of its educational Close Encounters outreach programme, the ECO has teamed up Dr Bruno Bower, musicologist and composer from Imperial College London to give an introductory course – streamed online – on the music and composers in the ECO’s 2021-22 London season. This exciting new series of nine monthly talks runs from 15 September 2021 to 11 May 2022.
The English Chamber Orchestra conducted by Nicholas Kraemer returns to Cadogan Hall to perform Handel’s oratorio Messiah. The orchestra is joined by the Choir of Royal Holloway and internationally acclaimed soloists, Tim Mead, Stuart Jackson and Matthew Brooks. The soprano part will now be performed by multi prize-winning singer Hilary Cronin.
First performed in 1742, it has become tradition around the world for Messiah to be performed at both Easter and during the festive season. Messiah is famed for its sublime arias and uplifting choruses such us Ev’ry valley shall be exalted, Rejoice greatly O daughter of Zion, The trumpet shall sound, For unto us a child is born, Worthy is the Lamb & Amen and of course the ever-popular Hallelujah Chorus.
