Marcin Wasilewski Trio
Plus support: Fred Thomas
The inspiring aesthetics and distinctive tone of several cultural landscapes that form the concept of European jazz receive a vast contribution from the Polish scene.
A star hailing from that scene, pianist Marcin Wasilewski’s delicate yet dynamic playing and melodic sound make him one of the most defining voices of contemporary jazz.
With the 25th anniversary of the Marcin Wasilewski Trio, the 50th birthday of ECM Records, 50 years after Krzysztof Komeda’s death and a year since Tomasz Stańko left us, this concert will offer a journey reflecting the emotions, the experience and the respect.
Support comes from Fred Thomas. A member of the FIRE Collective, he is known for his breadth of musical styles as well as for specialising in creative re-interpretations of J.S. Bach, with keyboard albums on Odradek, The Silent Howl and, in 2019, on ECM.
In 2018 Thomas worked with Brian Eno on the latter’s forthcoming album. He has also appeared or collaborated with Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Jordi Savall, Jarvis Cocker, Ethan Iverson, Benoît Delbecq, Elina Duni, Tamara Stefanovich and Olivia Chaney, as well as record labels Harmonica Mundi and Realworld.
He works regularly as musical director with the National Theatre and Shakespeare’s Globe. He teaches at Trinity Laban, is published by Spartan Press and Edition Wilhelm Hansen, and has produced albums for many artists internationally. His most recent compositions were performed internationally and at the Royal Opera House.
