The boys of the London Oratory Schola give a seasonal concert of liturgical repertoire for the Feast of the Ascension. The sumptuous Missa Ascendens Christus by Spanish Renaissance composer Tomas Luis da Victoria (c. 1548-1611) is the centrepiece of the programme, and is complemented by a cappella Ascension motets by Peter Philips (c. 1560-1628) and Sir Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924). In addition, the Schola performs the magnificent 20th-century setting of Viri Gallilei by Patrick Gowers (1936-2014) for choir and two organs.
The London Oratory Schola is made up of boys aged 8-18, drawn from The London Oratory School. The choir sings Mass every Saturday evening at 6pm at Brompton Oratory during term time.
