A delightful programme of string chamber works, showcasing the supreme talents of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s string soloists. Directed by Leader of the RPO, Duncan Riddell, the performance opens with Schubert’s single-movement String Trio which was tantalisingly left unfinished, like his great Symphony No.8. Mozart’s expansive and emotionally compelling String Quintet in G minor precedes Tchaikovsky’s melodically rich Souvenir de Florence. This work combines influences from Florence, Italy where Tchaikovsky started to write the piece with a distinctly Russian feel.
