The Purcell School is the oldest specialist music school in the country, providing a rounded education with music at its heart for just under 200 exceptionally talented young players, singers and composers.
The Purcell School Symphony Orchestra is joined by guest conductor Natalia Luis-Bassa and begins the concert with the recent LA Phil-commissioned Téenek – Invenciones de Territorio by Mexican composer and educator Gabriela Ortiz.
With soloist Beste Gürkey, a recent Purcell alumna and joint-winner of the School’s Senior Concerto Competition in 2022, the Orchestra then performs Séjourné’s Marimba Concerto.
In the second half, the Orchestra ponders The Secret of Rain, a work by Simon Speare, one of The Purcell School’s composition professors. As the rain falls into the ocean and merges with the briny blue, the night concludes with Debussy’s orchestral masterwork, La mer.
Duration: approx. 2 hours (incl. interval)
