A Season’s First for ECO
As part of its educational Close Encounters outreach programme, the ECO has teamed up Dr Bruno Bower, musicologist and composer from Imperial College London to give an introductory course – streamed online – on the music and composers in the ECO’s 2021-22 London season. This exciting new series of nine monthly talks runs from 15 September 2021 to 11 May 2022.
The English Chamber Orchestra, directed by Stephanie Gonley returns to Cadogan Hall for this special concert, celebrating 60 years of the ECO.
The programme explores music that has been closely associated with the Orchestra over the past 60 years. Opening with the virtuosic and enthralling Divertimento for String Orchestra by Béla Bartók, leader Stephanie Gonley then performs J.S Bach’s Violin Concerto in A minor followed by Tchaikovsky’s sublime Andante Cantabile. The final work is the ever-popular Serenade for Strings by Dvořák, a work the Orchestra has recorded many times with artists closely associated with the ECO including Raymond Leppard CBE, Rafael Kubelík and Daniel Barenboim.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Cadogan Hall for this performance that is also staged in tribute to Sir Roger Gifford, Chairman of the ECO Music Society who sadly passed in May 2021 and was a valued supporter of the orchestra for many years.
Duration: approx. 1 hour 50 minutes (incl. interval)
