Claudio Monteverdi’s monumental Vespers is undoubtedly one of the most demanding choral works of the early 17th century. The piece demonstrates Monteverdi’s wonderfully versatile musical palette, displaying intricate polychoral textures, glorious instrumental flourishes and sumptuous solo movements. Unhappy in his court position in Mantua, the Vespers are often seen as Monteverdi’s ‘calling card’ for the position of Maestro di Capella at St Mark’s Basilica in Venice.
Thames Philharmonic Choir, under the leadership of rising star Harry Bradford, has earned an enviable reputation for musical excellence. They are accompanied by leading proponents of early music His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts.
Duration: approx. 1 hour 50 mins (incl. 20-minute interval)
