With her unique combination of colourful Brazilian spirit and insightful musicianship, Clélia Iruzun presents a spirited programme of virtuoso works for solo piano.
Mozart’s ever-popular Rondo alla Turca sets the scene for Carnaval, Schumann’s exuberant portrait of masked revellers – depicting characters from commedia dell’arte as well as the composer’s own friends and beloved wife.
Chopin turns up the temperature in the second half with one of his most famous waltzes and the mighty First Ballade.
Robert Schumann’s passionate love for his ‘guardian angel’ Clara is writ large in the heartfelt Widmung but, in the end, the devil has the best tune in Liszt’s spectacularly original and effective Mephisto Waltz.
Clélia has a highly acclaimed discography; her busy life embraces performances across Europe, the Americas and Asia, and on television and radio all over the world, including frequent broadcasts for BBC Radio 3.
