After its immensely successful debut tour of the UK in June 2022, we’re delighted to welcome back the Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra to open our season.
In the first half of the concert the Orchestra will be joined by the distinguished French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard in a performance of Bartók’s elegiac Third Piano Concerto, which he composed at the end of his life.
In the second half, András Keller will conduct the orchestra in a performance of Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’ Symphony. When first performed in 1803, this epic symphonic work changed music forever. As the first great utterance of the Romantic movement it is regarded as one of the most significant pieces of music ever composed.
‘This Hungarian orchestra is seriously good and, judging by the excited snippets of chatter I overheard around me, the Cadogan Hall audience agreed.’ (★★★★ The Times)
‘Keller’s vision is of a symphony orchestra that’s like an 80-strong chamber group, its members (metaphorically) singing together like a polyphonic choir’ (★★★★ The Times)
Duration: approx. 2 hours 15 mins (incl. interval)
