Cadogan Hall announces new charity partnership with Nucleo

Cadogan Hall has announced a new three-year partnership with Nucleo, a charity dedicated to empowering young people through collective music-making.

Nucleo uses music to empower young people, build communities and change lives. It is the only programme of its kind in England – a free, immersive, ensemble-based after-school programme for students aged 0 to 20. Providing instruments and all activities free of charge, they make a high-quality musical education possible for all.

Founded in North Kensington in 2013, Nucleo continues to deliver its after-school programme in the area to 450 beneficiaries, primarily from North Kensington, North Westminster, Brent and Hammersmith & Fulham. The young musicians represent the diversity of their community, speaking 40 different languages and representing over 100 schools. 84% of Nucleo students are from Global Majority populations. 51% live in the poorest 20% of neighbourhoods nationally. Nucleo offers children and young people the opportunity not only to learn music, but to develop the learning and life skills that playing an instrument can offer, and to build lifelong friendships by growing up as part of a strong, connected musical community.

In 2022, Nucleo took on the national role formerly held by Sistema England, and now has plans to expand beyond their local area. They also oversee two exciting national initiatives: the Young Leaders programme and the Instrument Donation Bank.

Through this partnership, Cadogan Hall will support the growth and expansion of Nucleo’s services through audience engagement and fundraising activities.

Adam McGinlay, Managing Director of Cadogan Hall, commented: “We had been seeking to establish a charitable partner for some time, and upon discovering Nucleo, it became immediately apparent that our shared values, aspirations, and commitment to community were perfectly aligned. The work undertaken by Lucy and her team is simply remarkable, and we look forward to playing our part in supporting Nucleo, its ambitions and the tremendous work they do.”

June 2024 marks Cadogan Hall’s 20th anniversary and Nucleo’s 11th anniversary. This partnership celebrates both milestone occasions.

Lucy Maguire, CEO of Nucleo, said: “We are beyond thrilled to have been selected as Cadogan Hall’s first charity partner. This invitation to engage closely with such an important and beautiful venue, and an organisation with such a generous, forward-looking ethos, is both a wonderful compliment and a gift. Nucleo ultimately is about helping to unlock the world for our students, and the support, recognition and opportunity that Cadogan Hall is offering them through this partnership will go so far towards doing that – not only for our current students but, we hope, for many more to come. We are deeply grateful to the Cadogan team for their belief in what we do, and delighted to be a part of celebrating their 20th anniversary!”
