The Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra continue their season at Cadogan Hall with conductor James Blair and works by Chabrier, Sibelius and Elgar.
The concert begins with España, the most renowned work of French composer Emmanuel Chabrier. As a skilled violinist himself, Sibelius’ deep connection to the instrument is evident in his Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, performed by the exceptional Czech violinist Kryštof Kohout.
The evening concludes with Elgar’s Enigma Variations, his most personal composition.
The piece starts with the Enigma theme, followed by fourteen variations, each representing one of Elgar’s close friends. The most famous of these variations, Nimrod, continues to be beloved by listeners worldwide.
