For its 16th concert in support of Freedom from Torture, the Doctors’ Orchestra is joined by prize-winning Polish pianist Krzysztof Moskalewicz for a performance of Rachmaninov’s First Piano Concerto.
Completed when Rachmaninov was only 18 years old but revised 27 years later, the Concerto retains the vigour and spontaneity of youth, blended with the chromatic palette and masterful orchestration of Rachmaninov’s mature works.
The Concerto is preceded by one of Smetana’s most loved works, the symphonic poem Vltava, which conjures up visions of the River Moldau from its source to its majestic passage through Prague.
The concert concludes with Brahms’ powerful E-minor Symphony, seen by some as darkly portentous but containing some of the most passionate and engrossing music Brahms ever wrote.
Livestream of the concert also available: doctorsorchestra.eventbrite.co.uk
Duration: approx. 2 hours (incl. interval)
