Legendary American jazz-funk producer, composer and drummer Norman Connors brings his Starship Orchestra to London for a ‘You Are My Starship’ 50th anniversary concert, joined by special guests Meli’sa Morgan and Bobby Lyle.

A native of Philadelphia, Connors began his career performing with jazz greats including John Coltrane, Archie Shepp and Pharoah Sanders, before releasing his debut album, Dance of Magic, in 1972. Signing to Buddha Records two years later – where he also served as A&R manager – he achieved major crossover success with ‘Valentine Love’ (featuring Michael Henderson and Jean Carne), ‘We Both Need Each Other’, and the timeless ‘You Are My Starship’.

Connors’ catalogue is a treasure trove of rare groove and jazz dance classics such as ‘Mother of the Future’, ‘Captain Connors’, ‘Phoenix’, ‘Stella’, and ‘Samba for Maria’. Across his remarkable career, he has collaborated with a host of musical luminaries, including Herbie Hancock, Stanley Clarke, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Hubert Laws, Phyllis Hyman, and Freddie Hubbard, among many others.

Joining him for this special occasion are R&B and soul vocalist Meli’sa Morgan, known for her hit ‘Fool’s Paradise’ and her acclaimed rendition of Prince’s ‘Do Me Baby’, and acclaimed keyboardist Bobby Lyle, whose landmark album The Genie remains a fusion classic.
