Ian Gillan brings his Talking Gib’rish tour to Cadogan Hall – a special live spoken-word event offering audiences an intimate insight into his remarkable life and career in music.
From his childhood in Hounslow and early days with The Javelins and Episode Six, to the global rise of Deep Purple, Ian reflects on the experiences, music and outlook on life that shaped one of rock’s most influential careers. Fans can expect candid, funny and unfiltered stories from six decades on the road, including tours with Dusty Springfield, shows across Europe and the Middle East, and life inside one of hard rock’s defining bands.
Ian’s distinctive voice has been at the heart of Deep Purple since he joined the group in 1969, just before they released their landmark album, Machine Head, featuring the iconic track ‘Smoke on the Water’. Away from the band, he has continued to push boundaries with projects including Jesus Christ Superstar, Gillan, Garth Rockett and the Moonshiners, and Repo Depo.
Ian says: “I am quivering with anticipation at the prospect of embarking on my first ever public speaking engagements… I’ll be covering a lot of ground, from my early days in Hounslow to whatever might have happened on the latest World Tour with my beloved Deep Purple… and maybe something funky in-between. After 65 years on the road, there will be stories about some of the fascinating and sometimes magical events and people that I’ve encountered along the trail. It’s going to be a blast!”
