The Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra continue their season at Cadogan Hall with conductor James Blair and a programme of three masterpieces. The concert opens with Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, an exhilarating work bursting with energy and exuberance.
This is followed by Elgar’s deeply moving Cello Concerto. Performed by cellist Maxim Calver, the concerto is one of the composer’s most personal works and remains among the most beloved in the cello repertoire.
The second half of the concert is devoted to Richard Strauss’ An Alpine Symphony. From the first light of dawn to the mountain’s ascent and the dramatic descent that follows, YMSO takes listeners on a journey through the Alps and brings the evening to a spectacular close.
