“Everything around is broken and mouldering, and the bright sky shines in. I believe I found today in that old chapel the beginning of my Scottish Symphony,” wrote a 20 year-old Mendelssohn while visiting Holyroodhouse, steeped in Scottish history. 13 years later, he completed his Scottish Symphony, capturing the drama of Mary Queen of Scots’ life and taking inspiration from the mountainous scenery which so captivated him.
The Flanders Symphony Orchestra brings this masterpiece to life after a performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 by award-winning pianist Filippo Gorini.
