The Chapel Choir of the Royal Hospital Chelsea and the Academy of Ancient Music return to Cadogan Hall for an evening of the finest Baroque choral music. Handel’s four anthems were written for the coronation of King George II in 1727. They open with his celebrated setting of Zadok the Priest, which appears in this concert alongside Bach‘s glorious 1733 Magnificat in D major and settings by both composers of the text “O Sing unto the Lord a New Song”.
After such a long period of silence in our concert halls and churches, we return in a spectacular fashion with themes of renewal and celebration.
‘First-class personnel . . . it’s the tension and subtlety in the performances that catch the ear’ (Gramophone, on the Chapel Choir of the Royal Hospital Chelsea)
‘playing of irresistible colour and exuberance’ (The Telegraph, on the Academy of Ancient Music)
Duration: approx. 2 hours (incl. interval)
