The Chapel Choir of the Royal Hospital Chelsea and the Academy of Ancient Music return to Cadogan Hall to perform Bach’s sublime masterpiece, his Mass in B minor.
Completed in 1749, the year before his death, it represents the pinnacle of his career and is magnificent in scale: the chorus and soloists sing alongside an orchestra featuring trumpets, timpani, a horn and an extended wind section. The Mass includes Bach’s final pages of vocal music, the Et incarnatus est, placed alongside the Crucifixus, an arrangement from one of his earliest cantatas, composed in 1714.
Soloists will be taken from the forces of the critically acclaimed Royal Hospital Chapel Choir.
‘First-class personnel… it’s the tension and subtlety in the performances that catch the ear’ (Gramophone on the Chapel Choir of the Royal Hospital Chelsea)
‘playing of irresistible colour and exuberance’ (The Telegraph on the Academy of Ancient Music)
Please note start time.
Duration: approx. 2 hours 20 minutes (incl. 20-minute interval)
