Handel’s Messiah isn’t just an oratorio: it’s practically a national institution. Everyone knows the Hallelujah chorus, but if that’s all you know, you’re in for a wonderful surprise – and you don’t have to be religious to be stirred by some of the most heartfelt and uplifting music ever written.
No Christmas is complete without it, and tonight the English Chamber Orchestra has teamed up with baroque music expert Nigel Short and his famous chamber choir Tenebrae, plus some of the UK’s finest vocal soloists, to recreate the grandeur, the glory and the pure inspiration of this best-loved of all choral masterpieces.
