The John Lewis Partnership Music Society presents an evening of classical British music centred on the theme of the sea. Conducted by Mark Jordan, the concert features Voices in Partnership and The Cavendish Ensemble.
The performance begins with Elgar’s Sea Pictures, a series of five songs for mezzo-soprano and orchestra. Soloist Katey Rylands joins the ensemble to perform these atmospheric settings of maritime poetry.
In the second half, the full choir and orchestra perform Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony. This large-scale choral work uses text by Walt Whitman to explore both the physical power of the ocean and the journey of the human soul. The performance features soloists Katy Thomson (soprano) and Paul Grant (baritone).
Duration: approx. 2 hours 15 mins (incl. interval)
