LCO’s Cadogan Hall season continues with an exploration of the conflicting emotions of love of homeland and a longing for the new.
Inspired by master composer of the Tudor era Thomas Tallis, Vaughan Williams evokes the pastoral English landscape in his haunting Fantasia. In Songs of Travel, Englishman Vaughan Williams set to music poems by Scot Robert Louis Stevenson where we meet a resolute traveller determined to discover the world; while Dvořák’s New World Symphony is surely one of the greatest love letters to one country written by a composer from another.
