Matthew Jones conductor
Joined by his choir, conductor and arranger, Matthew Jones fuses the world’s most recorded orchestra of its kind with a singer whose discography is as good as endless, in this exciting collaboration with Madeline Bell.
The Newark, New Jersey native first arrived in Europe in 1962 with the Alex Bradford Singers and has stayed ever since. The concert will take in Madeline’s gospel beginnings and her time as a much sought-after session singer for the likes of Dusty Springfield, Joe Cocker and The Rolling Stones, as well as her solo career dating back to albums such as Bell’s a Poppin’, Doin’ Things and This Is One Girl.
With a little help from her friend and contemporary Kiki Dee, Bell’s chart-topping success with Blue Mink (‘Melting Pot’, ‘Good Morning Freedom’, ‘The Banner Man’, etc.) will also feature, as well a nod to her jazz/blues repertoire, being a Ronnie Scott’s favourite, accompanied by Ian Shaw.
Celebrate this landmark birthday of a true music stalwart, or “lifer”, as affectionately dubbed by host and interviewer Paul Gambaccini.
