A thrilling new chapter begins as Jakob Lehmann, one of the most exciting young conductors in historically-inspired performance, makes his debut with the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantiqueover 100 singers and musicians united to deliver this epic concert occasion.

This monumental gathering marks the start of a groundbreaking exploration of Gioachino Rossini’s music on period instruments, offering a fresh perspective on the works of this operatic genius.

“I have long admired the world-class performances of this wonderfully talented organisation.” His Majesty King Charles III, Patron of the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras

“The Monteverdi Choir has dominated the choral scene worldwide for more than 50 years.” The Guardian

Rossini’s rarely performed opera Ermione (1819) is one of his best-kept secrets – a vibrant drama set in the aftermath of the Trojan War. The carefully curated sequence of semi-staged excerpts for this performance showcases dazzling music that demands the full force of soloists, orchestra, and massed chorus, bringing its emotional intensity to life through the combined power of this exceptional ensemble.

Complementing this is Rossini’s passionate Stabat Mater (completed in 1841), which is linked to his earlier opera by the theme of motherhood; Andromache grieves with her son in the ruins of Troy, just as the Virgin Mary grieves for her son, the crucified Christ. The profound spiritual weight of this masterpiece requires the full vocal and instrumental forces that only such a distinguished gathering of artists can provide.

Critics consistently praise Lehmann’s ability to balance technical rigour with expressive freedom, describing his conducting as “precise”, “revelatory”, and “thrilling” – qualities essential when directing such a vast assembly of world-class performers.

With Lehmann at the helm and over 100 distinguished singers and musicians of the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique delivering their signature excellence, this promises to be an evening of deep emotion and musical brilliance on a truly epic scale.

★★★★★ “A choral ensemble that is rightfully considered the best in Europe” Bachtrack
