Following on from the success of The Allure of Miss Lee (an evening of songs and stories of jazz icon Peggy Lee) jazz vocalist Catherine Lima and her quartet bring you Peggy’s Got the Blues.
Lee’s voice was very distinctive – it was understated but full of subtlety with a breathy tone that became her trademark, significantly enhanced by her liking for cigarettes! She made over 50 albums covering many different styles of music, giving them all her unique treatment – it seemed she could turn her voice to anything. However, she had an innate blues style and Peggy’s Got the Blues celebrates that style.
With Peggy Lee trademark hits such as ‘Fever’ and ‘Is That All There Is?’, this show also embraces some of Lee’s lesser-known repertoire.
“I listened to her version of ‘The Folks Who Live On The Hill’ and it’s really lovely. Not at all an imitation but her quiet delivery captures the essence of Peggy Lee” Holly Foster Wells (Peggy Lee’s granddaughter and President of Peggy Lee Associates)
A London-based singer/songwriter Catherine has been delighting her audiences on the jazz circuit for over 15 years. A charismatic and entertaining performer, she has a warm expressive tone which she uses expertly to create moods from sultry to joyous, drawing on influences such as Anita O’Day, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Patricia Barber and Barbra Streisand.
Duration: approx. 2 hours (incl. 30-minute interval)
