Khachaturian’s Suite from the play Masquerade sets the scene for this glorious evening of orchestral music, the final concert of the RPO’s 2022–23 season at Cadogan Hall.
Winner of the Gold Medal at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition and described by critics as ‘dazzlingly brilliant’ (The Strad), cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan performs Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme – a virtuosic piece inspired by Mozart.
Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition takes listeners on a musical tour of an art gallery. This series of musical pictures ranges from the quiet lyricism of The Old Castle to the sonic splendour of The Great Gate of Kiev, taking in clucking unhatched chicks and the terrifying witch Baba Yaga along the way.
Duration: approx. 1 hour 45 mins (incl. 20-minute interval)
