Published after his death, Mendelssohn’s Song Without Words for Cello and Piano opens this chamber concert with a beautiful collection of miniature masterpieces. In contrast to the sweet and lyrical melodies of Mozart’s Quintet for Clarinet and Strings is one of the most enduring Piano Trio’s of all time, Mendelssohn’s Trio No. 1 in D minor for Violin, Cello and Piano, whose popularity stems from its soaring melodies and virtuosity throughout.
