Ian Page conductor
Ian Page and his award-winning ensemble celebrate Mozart’s birthday with an enchanting exploration of the multi-faceted theme of love in Mozart’s operas.
The programme incorporates a selection of memorable arias and ensembles from The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, Idomeneo and La clemenza di Tito, as well as less familiar highlights from La finta semplice and La finta giardiniera.
Adding a narrative flow to the evening, each musical item is preceded by a related poem – including works by Shakespeare, Yeats, Auden and John Fuller – providing fresh context, insight, humour and pathos, and shedding new light on Mozart’s treatment of love in all its forms.
This concert features five of the most exciting young singers in opera today, showcased alongside an orchestra widely regarded as one of the finest interpreters of Mozart’s music.
