Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 1
Rachmaninov Symphony No. 2
Sergey Smbatyan conductor
Maxim Vengerov violin
Malta Philharmonic Orchestra
We are most fortunate to have a visit from the celebrated violinist Maxim Vengerov who many regard as the greatest violinist alive today. It will be a tremendous experience to hear him perform contemporary composer Alexey Shor’s beautifully sublime Seascapes, followed by the glittering, ethereal qualities of Prokofiev’s First Violin Concerto.
In the second half the Malta Philharmonic, conducted by its principal conductor Sergey Smbatyan, plays one of the most romantic of all symphonies – Rachmaninov’s Symphony No. 2.
‘One of the most brilliant violinists you’ll ever hear’ (The Washington Post on Maxim Vengerov)
The concert is organised together with the European Foundation for Support of Culture.
