An evening full of rare opportunities – the chance to hear star violinist Vadim Repin, music by leading contemporary composer Ye Xiaogang and Mahler’s First Symphony at Cadogan Hall.

Russian violinist Vadim Repin has been dazzling audiences since he first started playing the violin at the age of five. Tonight he will perform Shostakovich’s First Violin Concerto, kept unpublished due to censorship until 1955 after which it was deemed an extraordinary success.

Filled with anticipation, the first spellbinding notes of Mahler’s First Symphony capture the audience ready to take them on a journey with the orchestra and launched the symphonic career of one of the world’s most famous symphony composers. Enjoy the ride with the China Symphony Orchestra of Shenzhen and its Music Director and Chief Conductor Daye Lin, live at Cadogan Hall.

Winner of First Prize at the Sixth Sir Georg Solti International Conductors Competition in 2012 (the first-ever Chinese recipient of this award), distinguished conductor Daye Lin was Principal Conductor of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra from 2010–15 before being appointed Music Director and Principal Conductor of China Symphony Orchestra (of Shenzhen) in 2016.

The China Symphony Orchestra (of Shenzhen) was founded in 1982 and has distinguished itself with the excellence of its playing, fast becoming one of Asia’s leading orchestras. The Orchestra has toured China regularly since 1987, as well as regional tours in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao and international tours of four continents, receiving critical acclaim along the way.

The Zurich International Orchestra Series is sponsored by Zurich.
