The European Doctors Orchestra returns to Cadogan Hall for its first UK performance since the COVID-19 pandemic, raising money for the Royal Medical Benevolent Fund.

The concert opens with the rousing Orb and Sceptre march written for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

Hyeyoon Park, the youngest winner of the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, joins the orchestra to perform Shostakovich’s First Violin Concerto. Written for David Oistrakh in 1947 at a time of severe Soviet censorship, it remained unpublished until Stalin’s death in 1953 and premiered to international acclaim in 1955. The Passacaglia is the most famous movement, concluding with a heartfelt cadenza ideally suited to the soloist’s outstanding style and virtuosity.

The concert ends with Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique, written during the early Romantic period in 1830 when the composer himself was under the influence of opium, musically depicting the full spectrum of human emotion.

Please note start time.

Duration: approx. 2 hours (Incl. interval)
