Since ancient Vedic times people in India developed music as one of the most powerful platforms to express their longing for and separation from the divine and the spiritual. Manorama sings the poetry and compositions of South Indian mystics Adi Shankara, Tyagaraja, Dikshitar, and Sunanda performs the devotional songs of Mirabai, Kabir, Surdas and thumri of North Indian music.

Tajjalan is a new choral work commissioned by the AMC inspired by Miserere mei Deus by Allegri but using beautiful melodic lines of Indian ragas. It is performed by Rubythroat, an ensemble of Trinity Laban students with artistic director Linda Hirst.

Duration: approx. 2½ hours (incl. interval)
