The composer Ralph Vaughan Williams was one of the most influential voices in English 20th-century music: his writing encompassed operas, ballets, chamber music, secular and religious vocal pieces and nine symphonies. He was our neighbour too – living at 13 Cheyne Walk, a short walk from the Royal Hospital Chelsea, between 1905 and 1929.

2018 saw the release by the Chapel Choir of two discs of his choral music to extensive critical acclaim. The Chapel Choir’s annual autumn concert showcases some of the highlights of those recordings, including several which were world premieres, alongside his sumptuous Mass in G minor, Valiant for Truth and two works written for the 1953 Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II: O Taste and See and The Old 100th.

This performance, in the beautiful setting of the Royal Hospital’s Wren Chapel, promises to be unmissable.

‘First-class personnel… it’s the tension and subtlety in the performances that catch the ear’ (Gramophone on the Royal Hospital Choir)

Interval refreshments will be served in the Great Hall. All tickets include a glass of wine in the interval (18+ years).
