Hearts, Hands and Voices: a Celebration of Apprenticeship and Music
The works in this Musical Celebration of the ‘Cathedral of Arts and Crafts’ – as John Betjeman described Holy Trinity – belong either to the period when the Arts and Crafts was flourishing or to a corpus of works that demonstrate the practices and ideologies of the movement, binding up the old with the new, and taking inspiration from the past to construct the present. The identification of a definitive canon of works as the ‘Music of the Arts and Crafts Movement’ would be misleading, but acknowledging that there is music that reflects its ethos and values seems perfectly correct in the knitting together of a narrative that unites the artists whose work is displayed under our roof.
