Enter the world of a 16th-century Spanish royal power struggle, unbridled passion, and religious fervour.
Based on Schiller’s play of the same name, Verdi’s grand opera Don Carlo is a dark, epic masterpiece which centres around the tragic, forbidden love between Don Carlo and his stepmother, Elisabeth of Valois.
Featuring a dazzling line-up of international opera soloists and rising young stars, with a chorus including students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, this evening presents the “best bits” of Verdi’s stirring opera, taking in themes of love, loyalty, familial dysfunction, destiny, brotherhood, and jealousy.
Leading the orchestra, comprised of players from the renowned Glyndebourne Sinfonia, is Matthew Kofi Waldren, a specialist in Italianate opera repertoire and fresh from his triumph conducting Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West for London’s Opera Holland Park.
Fai Da Te Productions is a new production company which puts artists and storytelling at the heart of its work.
