Fabienne Ambuehl is known for her vibrant contemporary jazz, weaving together elements of poetry, folk and storytelling. Her latest album Thrive, released on Ubuntu Music, won ‘Jazz Recording of the Year’ at the 2025 Presto Music Awards. The music of the London-based, Swiss-born pianist, singer and composer receives widespread acclaim from the international jazz press.

With fluid, expressive piano playing and emotive vocals, Ambuehl’s unique sound is lyrical, atmospheric and rich in detail, drawing inspiration from both the natural world and urban life. Her debut album, Glitterwoods (Traumton, Berlin), was named ‘Album of the Year’ by UK Vibe, and she has since performed and recorded internationally with many different artists, including a musical residency in Senegal funded by Arts Council England and appearing as an improvising soloist with Jazzchor Freiburg at the Eurovision Choir contest in Riga, Latvia.

Thrive was selected as ‘Album of the Week’ by both Presto Music and Germany’s Rondo magazine, featured on the Jazz FM playlist, and received regular airplay on BBC Radio 3. All About Jazz UK praised Ambuehl’s voice as “crystal clear, distinctive and refreshingly free of jazz clichés” and ARD Jazz, Germany wrote, “Thrive has an underlying sense of positivity that gives listeners a genuinely uplifting and great feeling.”

Ambuehl leads a quartet featuring some of the UK’s most in-demand jazz musicians.
With Ant Law on guitar, Tom Farmer on bass and Ryan Thrupp on drums, the Quartet’s performances are engaging, captivating and energetic. With compelling rhythms and influences ranging from blues and Brahms to The Beatles, the band creates a sound that is daring yet intimate, and truly its own.

“A mesmerising soundscape that seamlessly blends songs and instrumentals… the album sounds terrific and delivers an impressively immersive musical experience” ★★★★ Jazzwise UK

“Lyrical, intimate, and yet bursting with energy, Fabienne Ambuehl has crafted a sublime second album” Presto Music Awards, ‘Jazz Recording of The Year’

“A striking musical setting of Emily Dickinson’s poem “My River Runs to Thee” and D.H. Lawrence’s “Self-Pity”, with Ambuehl communicating Lawrence’s words hauntingly. Ambuehl herself, as a writer, has a poetic sensibility and uses expertly a range of poetic techniques in her lyrics, as on Immaculate Rain.” ★★★★ RNR Magazine
