A thrilling ride through our solar system to a galaxy far, far away, via sci-fi film scores and highpoints of Holst’s orchestral classic.
The Taiwan Philharmonic, one of Asia’s finest orchestras, has travelled the furthest across our planet of all our visiting orchestras. But their programme takes us out into deep space. Propelled by John Adams’ energetic, intricate showpiece, we visit our planetary neighbours – the menacing music of Mars contrasts with spritely Jupiter, ennobled by one of the great hymn tunes.
The majestic opening of Strauss’ epic tone poem, used so effectively in 2001: A Space Odyssey, makes it one of the most recognisable passages in all of classical music, whilst John Williams’ film score has lost none of its fantasy, vitality and pictorial charm in the half-century since it was written.

Most events last 2 – 2½ hours, evening events generally finishing no later than 10pm Monday to Saturday and 9pm on Sundays.
